DNN and World Cup Get A Nice Sports Blog Mention
Grantland has a feature piece today about the Title IX anniversary, with a review of women’s sport films. Scroll down to the Whip It! section for what I feel like is one of the best brief descriptions of modern derby by a sports writer that I’ve seen in a long time.
“What’s more, roller derby proves that fans will show up for women’s sports. Regular-season bouts across the nation typically sell out arenas that seat thousands. The Derby News Network exponentially amplifies the audience. Competitive derby caught on fast enough for Toronto to host the first Roller Derby World Cup in December, with 13 nations from four continents competing.”
The article is a fantastic look at the state of women’s and girls’ sports today, amateur and professional, to boot. Read it.
