Meet Team Scotland: Moxie Emerald

Name: Moxie Emerald

League Affiliation: Auld Reekie Roller Girls (ARRG) Edinburgh

Years Skating: 3 1/2 yrs

DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?

ME: Ha! Very little… I played a lot of sports in school, but didn’t continue with any after.

DL: Why did you want to be on Team Scotland?

ME: To be a part of roller derby history! It’s just generally an amazing opportunity, I saw no reason to not want to be a part of it.

DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the final 20?

ME: Words cannot describe! Overwhelmed, ecstatic, patriotic, proud, terrified…. a whole range of emotions!

DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?

ME: Tough question… there are so many. Each match you play, you find another skater that you admire something about. that’s what I love about this sport. you can pick and choose what you want to work on individually and as a team, and everyone contributes to your learning curve

DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?

ME: I guess just be realistic? It’s too easy to look at AMAZING skaters when you’re starting, and just think “I want to do that!” but it’s a very gradual process so don’t be too hard on yourself. Some people pick it up so quickly, others take a bit more time. Just keep your own goals in mind, and keep building on them to be the skater you want to be.
