Meet Team Scotland: Marshall Lawless
Name: Marshall Lawless
League Affiliation: Glasgow Roller Girls
Years Skating: 1.5yrs
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
ML: Nothing really since school. I played hockey at school, and did quite well at athletics until i was about 15 – then nothing until a few years ago. I was a bit pissed off at my weight and tried running – that lasted about 5 minutes, then tried 5 aside football which was fun but the group sort of disbanded.
DL: Why did you want to be on Team Scotland?
ML: I wanted to see how far I could go. I knew if I didn’t try out I would be disappointed. I don’t like the idea of looking back on my life and thinking “I wish I’d tried that”, or “I wish i tried harder”.
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the final 20?
ML: Very chuffed, very excited and very nervous!
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
ML: There are so many for many different reasons. I choose Sarah McMillan from GRG, she encouraged me loads and gave me great advice when I was coming through rookies and joining the big girls. Keep working hard, keep pushing yourself, and training should be harder than the game.
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
ML: BEND YOUR KNEES! And remember it’s a team sport, you have to work well with others.
