Meet Team Scotland: Ciderella

Name: Ciderella

League Affiliation: Auld Reekie Roller Girls

Years Skating: 3 ½ yrs.

DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?

C: Lots when I was a wee one (gymnastics, swimming, trampolining, football) but then just your generic school Phys Ed.

DL: Why did you want to be on Team Scotland?

C: I might be English but the derby side of me has been completely born and bred in Scotland. I want to give something back and represent!

DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the final 20?

C: Totally over the moon! I cannot wait to skate against some of the best skaters around the world with some of my best pals!!

DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?

C: I really hate this question because one of the best things about derby is how inspirational people are on a daily basis. Closer to home I would say Fay Bentos. She is now off skates but her constant dedication to the sport from day one always inspired me to do that too. (She helped introduce the league to Edinburgh)

DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?

C: Don’t give up!

I did not get the derby bug straight away (I know a lot of people do). Luckily I had a lot of encouragement (and hassle) from LRG’s Juicy Lucy who started at the same time and was my flat mate. I was frustrated that I was not good as I wanted to be straight away but I pushed myself. Whilst I will always aim to be stronger, faster, better etc. I am pleased at what I have achieved so far and definitely glad I did not pack it in!
