Meet Team England: Frightning Bolt

Name: Frightning Bolt

League Affiliation: London Rollergirls

Years Skating: 3

DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?

FB: Running to the bar for last orders was pretty much as athletic as I got before roller derby

DL: Why did you want to be on Team England?

FB: Why wouldn’t you! It’s not every day that you get to represent your country and I feel truly honoured to be one of the top 20.

DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the top 20 skaters?

FB: Ecstatic. I honestly couldn’t believe it because the standard of skating at the try-outs was extremely high so I didn’t really fancy my chances much. It’s a massive compliment.

DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?

FB: There are so many skaters worldwide that I admire and I try to emulate to the best that I can when I’m on the track. I don’t really have one skater that inspires me most but my biggest inspirations are from skaters within my own league as I know them personally and can relate to the fact they are ‘real’ people with ‘real’ lives. I am constantly in awe of the determination and passion the skaters in London Brawling (London Rollergirls A team) have. I know first-hand how much work, time and energy they put into training both on and off the track and it’s truly humbling to be part of all that.

DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?

FB: Go hard or go home.
