Meet Team England: Vagablonde
League Affiliation: London Rollergirls
Years Skating: 3
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
V: Always did sports when I was younger including netball, soccer, hockey, swimming, cycling and long distance rollerblading.
DL: Why did you want to be on Team England?
V: I have always dreamt of representing a country in a sport and being able to represent England in the World Cup is a dream come true.
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the top 20 skaters?
V: Really excited, this is not only an opportunity to play for England but to be part of Roller Derby history, I’m honoured.
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
V: Suzy Hotrod. She has an amazing ability to power through packs as a jammer, I often try and channel her when I’m having trouble with a game.
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
V: Roller Derby is as much of a mental game as it is a fitness game. If you can keep your mind in check half of your battle is won, then you need to train, train, train, OUTSIDE of your already allocated derby practices.
