Meet Team USA: Racer McChaseHer
Derby 5 years; speed skating 22 years.
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
RM: Competitive quad and inline speed skater; volleyball in high school and college
DL: Why did you want to be on Team USA?
RM: It was always a dream of mine to make the world team in speed skating but I just wasn’t good enough. Then derby came along and I’ve at least gotten close!
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made the top 34?
RM: A bit disappointed to not be in the top 28 but still thrilled to even be considered as an alternate
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
RM: Hmm…so tough to choose just one…I’d probably have to say Joy Collision because she has amazing talent and abilities (and she pretty much taught herself to skate). Plus she is hands down one of the sweetest people I have ever met both on and off the track. I think that’s very admirable.
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
RM: Keep at it and you’ll figure it all out soon enough. There’s a LOT of rules.
