Meet Team USA: SoulFearic Acid
Rose City (Portland)
Since January 2009 – This is my second travel team season for Wheels of Justice, first full season.
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
SA: First Team All-State in high school soccer, Portland Player of the Year, Second Team All-State softball, lettered in softball, soccer, and basketball high school freshman year, in the Portland Sports Hall of Fame for excelling in several sports, high school soccer coach, snowboarding coach. I have no real skating background. I am more athlete than skater.
DL: Why did you want to be on Team USA?
SA: Because I tried to walk on for soccer at the University of Oregon and was told to try out again the following year, but never did. I have unmet athletic aspirations that drew me to roller derby because there is a lot of potential to take it to the next level. I also want to be a part of roller derby history helping to advance the legitimacy of the sport and improve my skills by playing with the best.
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it?
SA: Stunned to be on a roster with all my idols.
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
SA: Bonnie Thunders because she’s composed, smart on the track, fit, and especially good at getting though walls.
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
SA: I encourage new skaters to make mistakes, fall, and go to the box. The skaters who aren’t willing to push themselves and make mistakes plateau.
