Meet Team USA: Heather Juska
Denver Roller Dolls
Derby 3 years, skating in general, my entire life. I was a regular rink rat growing up. My family owned a roller rink in Denver.
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
HJ: I was never very athletic growing up. I was in the marching band in high school, NO JOKE! I did however, speed skate and compete nationally when I was a teenager.
DL: Why did you want to be on Team USA?
HJ: For the experience of skating with some of the most amazing top derby players in the nation. Also to be a part of something revolutionary.
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it?
HJ: I had goose bumps and was so excited when I found out.
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
HJ: Atomatrix. I competed against her a few times in speed skating when I was younger and have always been inspired by her awesome attitude and drive for success.
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
HJ: Derby is the best sport in the world to play. It takes time to learn the game and skills but if you put forth the effort and hard work at practices, the feeling after is always rewarding.
